A 4 days Congo gorilla safari and mount Nyiragongo hiking tour should be on your bucket list if it not already; it will give you a unique and an unforgettable experience. The safari will give you an opportunity to encounter these giants, the closet animal to human and as well explore the active Nyiragongo Mountain which has the world’s largest lava lake. This extremely gratifying safari will begin and end in Kigali Rwanda’s capital.
Day 1- Transfer from Kigali to DR Congo
You will be picked from the airport by our driver as soon as you arrive and you will be taken to Mikeno lodge which is about a 3- 4 hour drive away. You will pass by beautiful sights of mother nature on your way as well as hospital local people waving at you like you know yourselves from somewhere. On arrival you will be checked in and you will have time to refresh and enjoy dinner. Make sure you retire early so that you can have a restful night ahead of a strenuous day the next day.
Day 2 – Trek gorillas in the Virunga national park
Day 2 is one of the action packed days of your trip and will begin with an early morning breakfast at your hotel before you are picked up by our drivers. When picked you will be taken to the park headquarters where you will be briefed at 7am. In the brief you will be guided on how best to make use of your trek, the do’s and don’ts while in the presence of the gorillas. You will also be assigned different groups depending on your energy levels as the maximum number of people to be assigned a particular gorilla family is 8 people. The trek will take you 3 -6 hours depending on the gorilla family assigned and when you find them, you will be give just an hour with them. Having absorbed all the good moments with them, you will embark on your journey back and then you will be driven back to your hotel.
Day 3 – Climb Nyiragongo volcano
Be sure to have an early morning breakfast before you embark on this exciting trek. From your hotel you will be driven to Kabati which happens to be the starting point for your climb. You will receive a brief first from the park rangers before you get to begin the climb. Hiking through the impressive rain forest is not only interesting but also the diverse features you find along the way will blow your mind. The lave eruption fissure as you conquer the summit is the icing on the cake for this particular hike. This is where you will camp for the night as you enjoy the view from the largest crater and watch the lava therein.
Day 4- Descend the Nyiragongo volcano
Imagine waking up on top on Nyirangingo and to a hot cup of coffee!! Having enjoyed your breakfast in the wild you will now begin your descent down the volcano and once again be graced by a variety of wild collectives including an assortment of birds, nature and even a fresh breath of cool air sweeping your face. Down the volcano our driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel just in time to refresh and be in time for your journey back to the airport.
