Overview 

With 5 days Kenya & Gorilla trek, you have great chance to visit two key destinations in East Africa: Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya for wildebeest migration experience and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda for mountain gorilla trekking. It is a combined wildlife and primate safari presenting you opportunity to see wildlife such as lions, leopards, elephants, crocodiles, gazelles, birds, rhinos in the savannas and mountain gorillas in the dense rain-forest.

Maasai Mara National Park is located in Narok county of Kenya, about 5-6 hours’ drive from Nairobi city. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on the other hand lies in the Southwestern side of Uganda. Bwindi is where more than 459 mountain gorillas of the world’s 1063 individuals all reside and the park has 20 habituated gorilla families for tracking in the 4 regions: Ruhija, Buhoma, Rushaga and Nkuringo.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve, evening game drive

Transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve: After breakfast, meet your driver for welcome to Magical Kenya and next drive to Maasai Mara National Reserve located in Narok. En-route, enjoy the jaw-dropping view of the great rift valley and sweeping savanna plains. You will check in at your lodge, have lunch and later enjoy an afternoon game drive.

On an afternoon game drive, expect great sightings of buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, leopards, hyenas, wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, birds and more. Drive back for a relaxed evening, dinner and a night stay.

Day 2: Wildebeest Migration experience + game drive

Early morning breakfast back at the lodge, after catch up with early risers before the sun comes out. Leave the lodge with packed lunch because you have a long day exploring Maasai Mara National Reserve. The key experiences today include a game drive to see the big game -elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards, lions; and witnessing the wildebeest migration with millions of wildebeests accompanied by thousands of gazelles, zebras, elands.

A picnic lunch is inclusive as you enjoy more sightings of wildlife and also the view the extensive savanna plains of Maasai Mara. Maasai village tour will follow in the evening to allow you experience authentic African cultures, dances, traditions and after, relax, dine at the lodge.

Day 3: Fly to Entebbe & transfer to Bwindi (flight)

After breakfast, you will catch up with flight from Masai Mara to Entebbe International Airport (EBB). From Entebbe, you will connect to Bwindi using aero link and land at Kihihi about 2 hours’ drive away.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trek, cultural visit 

Gorilla trekking in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Briefing about gorilla trekking rules and allocation of gorilla families, park guides will be done at the park offices by the park official. You will be accompanied by park guide early at 8:00am for actual search for a gorilla group assigned to you, taking 2-6 hours, but covers one hour for photography, learning how they behave, their feeding habits and more.

Bwindi National Park was gazetted in 1991 and since its establishment, currently it has 20 habituated gorilla families. These are found in its 4 regions -Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga. After an encounter with your gorilla family, return for relaxation and in the evening, great entertainment and cultural experience will be had at Batwa community where Batwa pygmies -the original forest keepers now live.

Day 5: Departure 

Rise up early for a hot cup of tea/coffee, after today will be for you to check out and transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe. En-route lunch will be had (leave when they have packed for you some) and at Equator, take pictures then proceed to Kampala or Entebbe.
