The 1 day Rwanda gorilla tour is a short gorilla trip at a limited time plan but offers a magnificent opportunity to trek with the gentle majestic mountain gorillas of the Volcanoes national park and be close to them with in their natural habitat for 1 hour.
This tour will start from Kigali or you can sleep nearer to Volcanoes national park in Musanze to cut on the morning driving distance to Volcanoes NP ending in Kigali for departure.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Transfer to Volcanoes NP for gorilla Trekking & Departure
If your overnight is in Kigali, you need to be up very early to prepare for departure by 5:30 AM at latest so that embark on a 2 hours drive to Volcanoes national park driving through Musanze district to Kinigi park head offices. Its important to be at the head offices by 7:00 AM for registration, and a briefing about the do’s and don’t when you meet gorillas. This is a standard precaution to protect the health of the mountain gorillas and the visitors. You will also be divided in groups of 8 people depending on your level of fitness.
For a single day gorilla trekking adventure, it’s advisable to go for easy or medium as the tough trek may take long hours and will get you very exhausted yet you have to travel back to Kigali the same day.
After the Briefing and assigning a gorilla group to trek, you will drive to the head trail of your gorilla group where the trek will begin. At this point you will descend into the forest with a lead from an experienced ranger guide who will be in position to answer all your question as you trek in search for your gorilla family. This trek can last from 30 minutes to 6 hours hiking through bamboo trees. The length of your trek depends on how far into the forest your gorilla group has moved. You Once you meet the gorillas, only one hour is allowed with the gentle species so as not to exhaust them. In this one hour, you are allowed to take pictures, video recording but don’t forget to take time and take in this magical moment!
Once the hour is done, descend back to the head trail where you entered the forest from. Once back at the Kinigi head office, you can have a refreshment and then hit the road with your tour guide back to Kigali to catch your departure Flight or drop off at your hotel.
