If you are a foreign national and you wish to obtain a Rwandan Visa, you will submit your application to the Rwandan Diplomatic Missions of your country of residence for processing. However nationals of Mauritius, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore and the Democratic Republic of Congo can visit the country without a visa for a period of 90 days. Citizens from East Africa however are issued with 6 months visitors pass (renewable) upon arrival with no fee and nationals of Australia, Republic of South Africa, Germany, Sweden, Israel, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States of America are issued with entry visa valid for a period up to 30 days and they pay for a visa upon arrival without prior application.
It should be noted that the visitor’s visa should not be used for employment and nationals of all African countries travelling to or transiting through Rwanda obtain an entry visa upon arrival without necessarily making prior application and pay for a visa where applicable. Below are some the things an applicant seeking to visit Rwanda should not miss;
- Travel document:
You should have a valid passport or another acceptable travel document which must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.
- Health requirements:
A vaccination certificate will be required at the border post and in the event of a major disease outbreak, specific requirements can be set and put to the knowledge of the public so you may need to be on the lookout.
- Visa fees:
These are fees for processing of applications and they are non refundable, that is to say if applications are refused, or withdrawn by the applicant, refunds of fees will not be made.
- Validity of a visa:
The maximum and minimum period of validity of your visa will be set out in the Information you’re your application.
- Single or multiple entries:
Whether a visa is issued for single or multiple entries will also be set out in the information you’re your application.
- Financial requirements:
You are cautioned to have sufficient funds to cover the costs of your stay in Rwanda. Evidence for such funds may be requested online, at the Rwandan foreign mission or at the entry point.
- Extension of a Visa for Some Classes:
Some visa classes can be extended and the details are set out in the information for your application. Extension of a visa should be applied for whilst initial visas remain valid and a grace period of 5 days after a visa has expired is allowed for you to either leave or renew the visa without a penalty; otherwise the you will be subjected to a penalty and may be refused a visa extension.
- Change of status for some classes:
In case you would like to change status for your visa class you will be required to apply to the Director General for another class of visa however for the group tourist visa change of status is not permitted. - Verification of documents:
Marriage certificate, death certificate, birth certificate and adoption certificate must be certified or true copies by the issuing authority and the police clearance must be original.

The High Commission of Rwanda is no longer accepting money, postal orders or even cheques for the visa applications. Whoever is applying for a visa must pay or transfer online the money into the account of the Rwanda High Commission Consular and personally submit or post the documents to show proof of payment.
